Meet the Florist!
Hi, I’m Alana. I am a local florist with a strong background in the restaurant industry. My experience working in restaurants inspired me to pursue my passion for floristry. Specifically, I spent time working in events at Blue Hill at Stone Barns, a renowned restaurant and wedding venue where I had the pleasure of seeing countless incredible arrangements that pushed the boundaries of what I thought could be done with flowers. After stepping away from Blue Hill, the biggest thing that stuck with me was how flowers can completely change an atmosphere. My goal is to provide arrangements that enhance the space they land in and evoke emotion. I would describe my style as whimsical and playful with a lot of personality. I look forward to collaborating with you on your next event, celebration, or weekly sprinkle of fun!
Philosophy
Flowers are an art form. I spent most of my childhood playing around with clay, exploring structure, color theory, and textures. I look at floral arrangements the same way I would look at a sculpture. Emphasizing the natural movement of each stem to create synergy between the flowers, considering how different textures interact with each other, and working with the season’s offerings to find the perfect color balance.
Sourcing
I source my flowers hyper locally to support local farmers and celebrate the Hudson Valley’s seasonal offerings. The restaurants I have spent most of my time in, whether it be as a customer or employee, have been primarily farm-to-table ones that focus on showcasing seasonal and local produce. In sourcing my flowers locally, I aim to emulate the same ethos as the farm-to-table movement but for flowers. In addition to this, I am a zero floral foam florist, and always stay as environmentally friendly as possible.
